Join Dr. Amanda Phalin as she walks us through President Sasse's first year and strategic vision for the University of Florida!

About Dr. Phalin:

Dr. Amanda J. Phalin is an Instructional Associate Professor at the University of Florida (UF) in the Warrington College of Business, where she teaches the College’s undergraduate core course in International Business, as well as graduate classes in Managerial Economics. Through her core course, Governor Phalin educates 1,300 students annually. She has earned UF MBA’s Outstanding Faculty Award, the College’s Teaching with Technology Award, and the University’s Online Education Excellence Award. Governor Phalin’s research covers several areas, including gender issues in international business and economics; educational technology, pedagogy, and outcomes; and intellectual property rights, particularly in the green sector.

Governor Phalin earned a Ph.D. in Economics from UF in 2013; her dissertation examined international patenting patterns of solar technologies. In 1999, she received a master’s in international economic affairs from the George Washington University Elliott School in Washington, D.C. She earned a bachelor’s in international studies and French from Vassar College in 1997; prior to her graduation, she spent a year studying political economy and European history at l’Institut d'études politiques in Paris.

Governor Phalin currently serves as Chair of the Board of Governor’s Advisory Council of Faculty Senates (ACFS). She was previously Chair of the UF Faculty Senate and a member of the UF Board of Trustees in 2022–2023. Prior to her studies at UF, she was a writer and editor for 10 years. Her work (written under her maiden name, Amanda Watson-Boles) has appeared in such publications as the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Foreign Policy Magazine, and Slate.com, among others.
